The Center for Furniture Craftsmanship’s flagship offering is the Nine-month Comprehensive, an in-depth training program for furniture makers. Offered from September through June each year, the program welcomes aspiring designer/makers who are committed to training at the highest level of excellence. Hands-on and project-oriented (students exhibit their work as part of a 5-week show at the Center’s Messler Gallery), the Nine-month Comprehensive helps students pursue careers as professional furniture makers and provides skills and confidence to those who wish to pursue furniture making as a serious avocation. The Center for Furniture Craftsmanship uses a Google Grant, managed by Mill Cove Partners, to help promote the program and fill enrollment.

Current Studio Fellow at the Center for Furniture Craftsmanship, Heide Martin, is a Nine-Month Comprehensive alumna. She is a former urban designer who is currently joining CFC for a four-month fellowship to explore new work.

“Having come in to the Comprehensive course with little woodworking experience, I was honestly surprised by what I was able to accomplish,” said Heide. “The dedication and knowledge of the instructors are truly remarkable, as is the camaraderie on campus. You feel like part of a community.”
